No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB)

Are you frustrated with the negative effects of NCLB on your music program? There's light at the end of the tunnel. NCLB will be revised in the next two years. Already our national organization, MENC has partnered with 88 other national organizations to make positive, significant adjustments to the law. Some of these proposed adjustments include:

    • Less testing - every other grade level, every other year.
    • Multiple assessment strategies - outside of testing, a real chance to include the arts.
    • Benchmarks based on the most effective public schools in your state.
    • Fully funding the requirements of the law.

We have a long way to go before these changes are accepted by law makers, but we are on the right path. WAME is working closely with MENC on your behalf to ensure that NCLB will become an effective law for our schools and the arts. We also need your feedback about NCLB. Share your comments on NCLB and the impact the current law has on the arts. Click here to submit your comments to Congress before January 1, 2007.

    Legislative News

The election season is now over and we can begin our work with newly elected state officials. One way to help build a strong case of support for the arts with our state government is to build a relationship with them. If you support the elected officials for your area, send them a congratulatory note regarding the recent election. Show your support and remind them that you support the arts and look forward to working with them to keep the arts strong in Wisconsin. Advocacy Ideas

Remember you are not alone. Get to know your music parents, community officials and business leaders. Cultivate them for your support team. A united effort involving multiple community resources creates a strong and powerful force.
