Position Statement

It is the position of the Wisconsin Music Educators Association and Wisconsin Advocates for Music Education that the children of Wisconsin deserve access to a balanced education program, including music and the other arts. Because of the singular focus of accountability through standardized testing, the No Child Left Behind Act forces schools to redirect resources to a few academic areas. This is detrimental to a diverse, balanced education that helps children learn to express themselves and communicate in a wide variety of ways preparing them for a future of lifelong learning.
