Electric Strings: Merging with the Acoustic World

Presented by: Susan Chandler, Whitewater, WI

Presenting “how to” for setting up electric strings in the classroom.  This session will also present the Yamaha commissioned music highlighting both acoustic and electric strings. Members of the Sun Prairie High School Chamber Strings will serve as a demonstration group for this session.

Susan Chandler has been a strong string advocate in Wisconsin throughout her 37 years of public teaching. In 2007 Susan was named to the national board of Yamaha Certified String Educators. She most recently joined the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater string department as the symphonic orchestra director and adjunct string teacher. Last June, Susan retired from Kettle Moraine Schools where she and her husband, Bill, developed an active string program which has alternate styles of music for all the Kettle Moraine Orchestras as well as an international travel component for the high school orchestras. Susan has received "Teacher of the Year Award from WiASTA (2008), Milwaukee Civic Music Association (2007), and Wisconsin Music Educators Conference (2005).
