Richard Tengowski, Kohler

Richard Tengowski is the Director of Bands for the School District of Kohler and received his B.M. in Music Education from St. Norbert College and his M.M. from Northwestern University. He teaches elementary, middle and high school concert bands, jazz ensemble, pep band, and secondary general music.
Tengowski is the current President-Elect of the Wisconsin Music Educators Association. He has also taken leadership roles with the Wisconsin CMP Project, Wisconsin Challenging Content Standards Task Force in developing standards for the state of Wisconsin, the WSMA Honors Project, and has served as the WMEA State Band Chair. Tengowski's work has been published in a recent book entitled Shaping Sound Musicians and MENC publications entitled Performance Standards for Music, Strategies for Teaching Beginning and Intermediate Band and Strategies for Teaching High School Band. Currently, he serves on the state task force to revise the Wisconsin Music Curriculum Guide and serves on the Music Educators Journal Editorial Committee.
Some of his accomplishments in education include research in music student assessment and the implementation of CMP and Arts Propel assessment programs in school districts throughout the Midwest. An active speaker and clinician, he has addressed state, regional and national education groups including the WMEA state conferences and MENC national conferences.
Tengowski is an active master adjudicator, guest artist and conductor throughout the state of Wisconsin. He was recently recognized as a Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Fellowship Award Recipient. He is a member of MENC, WMEA, WBA, Wisconsin Arts Assessment Leadership Academy, and is Past-President of the Wisconsin Association of Music Supervisors, Coordinators, and Department Chairs.
He is married to wife Beth Ellen and has four sons, Ryan, John, Benjamin, and Gregory.
