Event Description:World-class faculty guide performers and studio teachers to new dimensions of playing and teaching through private lessons, master classes, seminars, panel discussions, pedagogy classes, body awareness classes, ensemble playing, and performing in this new institute. Two tracks: performers attend June 1-13; studio cello teachers may attend June 1-7 and/or June 7-13. Event Description:Piano teachers and performers are invited to investigate the Taubman Approach with its leading experts in a relaxed, collaborative atmosphere. The Taubman Approach analyzes the functions underlying technique to help overcome technical limitations and cure playing-related injuries. It also helps teachers diagnose problems and implement solutions. A recital of music for two pianos and for piano and percusion is open to the public. Clinicians: Edna Golandsky, Mary Moran. Artistic Director: Jessica Johnson.

Event Description:Attendees will conduct a live ensemble and receive videotape critique and review consultation from the faculty using the selected repertoire list. The Wisconsin 132nd Army National Guard Band will be in residence for rehearsal and performance for each conducting participant. Clinicians are Russell Mickelson, Director of Bands at Ohio State University and Matthew Gregg, Associate Director and Barry Ellis, Director of Bands at UWP. 1 or 2 undergraduate or graduate credits are available.

Event Description:Finale is a powerful computer application that can serve music educators in many ways. This course provides a thorough introduction to the notation program, demonstrates how it can accomplish a variety of practical tasks and reveals ways it can facilitate instruction. No prior experience with Finale is required.

Event Description:This workshop provides a framework for incorporating improvisation and composition in the classroom and rehearsal hall. Through role-playing and hands-on exercises, the workshop demonstrates a wide range of practical techniques. Participants are encouraged to bring their instruments if they prefer not to use the keyboard for class activities. Those with or without previous improvisation or composition experience are welcomed.

Event Description:Please join us on the campus of Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, for the 2008 Wind Band Institute (WBI). Our special guests for 2008 are Robert A. Duke and Andrew Boysen, Jr. Two full-tuition scholarships are available for instrumental music educators in their first three years of full-time teaching, and undergraduate music education majors may receive a reduced registration rate. Event Description:This workshop for conductors and educators offers a comprehensive approach to teaching and enhancing musicianship through band. In addition to substantial podium time and conducting technique coaching, workshop sessions address rehearsal strategies, repertoire selection, enhancing ensemble section tone, and music education philosophy. Event Description:Early music musicians, scholars, teachers, students, and listeners gather for a week of classes, lectures, and performances as we explore "Handel's Journey: From Germany to England via Italy." Artists-in-residents: Newberry Consort, Marion Verbruggen, Quicksilver, Tempesta di Mare, and Baroque Band. Enjoy a seven-concert series focused on 18th-century traveler and musical titan George Frideric Handel. Concert series tickets also available separately.

Event Description:An intensive study of the Alexander Technique at whatever level you are. New students can begin to build a foundation in Alexander Technique principles. Continuing students can clarify and deepen their work. Alexander teachers and teacher trainees can work with master teachers in a community setting. Graduate credits are available.
