WMEA Election Results
 
As a result of the recent membership-wide election, WMEA has announced the three individuals that will begin serving terms on the executive board in July 2006: Jon Gilliland, president- elect; Barry Applewhite, southeast district vice president; Brenda Zimmerman, northcentral district vice president.

Congratulations to all candidates (Jon Gilliland, Alan Rieck, Barry Applewhite, Sharon Gilbert, Brenda Zimmerman and DeWayne Roberson) for being nominated and running. Thank you especially for your continual dedication to music education through leadership in all that you do.

Master Teacher Interview

Jerra Adams grew up in Amarillo Texas. She attended Amarillo College and in 1985, graduated with a Bachelor of Music Education degee from the University of Texas at Austin. She received a Master of Music Education degree from VanderCook College in Chicago, Illinois in 1995. Her first full time teaching position was with the Port Edwards School District. In 1990, she moved to the Stevens Point School District where she has taught at all levels in the band program. Currently she teaches eighth and ninth grade band at P.J. Jacobs Junior High School, and with her husband, Joe Adams, teaches tenth through twelfth grade band at Stevens Point Area Senior High (SPASH).

    Listening Project
     
    Mark your calendar to attend the WMEA Listening Project State Festival on Saturday, May 20, 9:30 a.m. at Waunakee High School. Support student teams from around the state as they participate in this unique festival.
    Wisconsin State Music Conference
     
    The annual Wisconsin State Music Conference is set for October 25 - 27 at Monona Terrace Convention Center, Madison. The 2006 conference theme is "Connecting Music and Children for Life." It pays tribute to the vital role of music teachers and the special bond that's formed when empowering children with lifelong learning through music. The 2006 conference features:

    • 75 clinics covering all aspects of music education
    • 20 instrumental and choral performing groups
    • Over 200 business and education exhibit booths
