Feature Article
by Michael Rosewall   Help, I'm Losing My Voice!
Losing one's voice is an occupational hazard for any teacher, but the music teacher is especially susceptible to vocal problems. Large numbers of students, long hours of rehearsals outside of the school day and the need to project the voice above musical sounds in the classroom can present special challenges for the music educator.

Music In Our Schools Month

Celebrate Music In Our Schools Month (MIOSM) this March.

Vote for MIOSM Showcase!
The MIOSM Showcase is designed by MENC to spotlight school music programs, recognize superior performances and promote the importance of music education. Watch videos of the school music group finalists now and come back March 1 to cast your vote! Voting will be open to members and nonmembers, so get your friends and family involved. The entries receiving the most votes at each level and the favorite overall will be announced later. Show your Wisconsin spirit by supporting Green Bay East High School. Congratulations to Kimberly Seidl and her entire group for being one of three high school finalists nationwide!

Attend Capitol Concerts.
In just a couple of weeks, the State Capitol will be filled with voices and instruments. In celebration of MIOSM, WMEA is again sponsoring school music group performances in the Capitol Rotunda. Concerts will be held on select days each week in March and April, between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. Visit the WMEA web site for a Capitol Concerts schedule.

Launchpad Regional Competitions

Approximately 60 bands made up of high school students throughout Wisconsin will be taking the stage in four regional competitions this March and April, with hopes of advancing to the Launchpad finals in Madison this June. Celebrate the reach of music education by coming out to the competitions and showing your support. See "Important Dates and Reminders" below for dates/locations.
