Reaching Out to Often Forgotten Legislators
One of the major responsibilities of every
music educator is to act as an advocate, to
promote the cause of music education. We do
this by demonstrating the value of our work
through public performances, by working with
school officials and administrators to ensure
appropriate financial support for our
programs, and by acting as a resource on
musical matters to the community at large.

First-Hand Learning With President's Own Marine Band
While music teachers in Wisconsin are blessed
with many great options for professional
development, sometimes it benefits teachers
to think a bit outside of the box and pursue
a specific interest. Janice Stone is a band
teacher at Winnequah Middle School in Monona
Grove School District who did just this in
2005 when she arranged to spend 10 days with
the President's Own Marine Band in
Washington, D.C.

Deadline - June 1!
Recognizing people who make a difference is
one of the most rewarding activities for any
organization. WMEA sponsors several awards to
recognize people who have sustained a
commitment to music education and made a
positive impact in the school, community or
state. As a member, you are invited to
nominate such a person for one of these awards:
Nominations for each of these awards will be screened after the June 1 deadline. Awards will be presented by the WMEA president during the Wisconsin State Music Conference General Session in Madison this October. |
