The common band, orchestra and choir model of
music instruction in secondary education has
motivated many Wisconsin students over the
past 50 years. Unfortunately, this model is
not compelling to all students -- especially
considering those growing up in urban areas.
To reach a broader range of students, school
music must represent many different music
styles.

Recognizing people who make a difference is
one of the most rewarding activities for any
organization. WMEA sponsors several awards to
recognize people who have sustained a
commitment to music education and made a
positive impact in the school, community or
state. Nominate someone you know! The May
deadlines are not far off.
