Music, The Reward
I cannot imagine my life without music.
Neither could Nietzsche, who famously said,
"Without music, life would be a mistake."
And, I assume, most of my colleagues would
feel the same, since we all chose music for
our careers.

Next Direction for Band |
|
|
|
|
Application Deadline: Monday, February 1
WMEA has an excellent conference for band
students
in grades 10-12. It's Next Direction
for Band held February 19-21 at Green Lake
Conference Center! This conference
will bring together outstanding high school
students across Wisconsin who share an
interest in learning more about what is
involved in entering a career in music,
especially in band. Students will work with
nationally renowned conductor and composer Frederick
Speck in a band rehearsal setting,
discover the "why" behind rehearsal
procedures, learn about the skills necessary
to be a successful musician and music
educator. More information and the student
application form [.pdf] is available online.

Professional Development Opportunities |
|
|
|
|
New this year -- webinars!
The Wisconsin Center for Music Education is
expanding its statewide professional
development reach by offering school-year
programming completely by distance learning,
alleviating the need to travel for
professional development. Webinars are "web
seminars," which include both an audio and
online component -- participants simply need
a telephone and computer with Internet access
to attend and they will be able to interact
with the instructor and other participants
while they learn. Click
here for more information on how webinars
work and how to participate.

WMEA Awards and Recognition |
|
|
|
|
Recognizing people who make a difference is
one of the most rewarding activities for any
organization. WMEA sponsors several ways to
recognize people who have sustained a
commitment to music education and made a
positive impact in the school, community or
state: 25+ Years of Teacher Service
Recognition, Richard
G. Gaarder Award, Distinguished
Administrator Award, Distinguished School
Board Member Award,
Michael G. George Award and Community
