Next Direction for Band
Application Deadline Extension: Monday, December 15!
WMEA has a new conference for band students in grades 11-12. It's Next Direction for Band held February 20-22 at Green Lake Conference Center! This conference will bring together outstanding high school students across Wisconsin who share an interest in learning more about what is involved in entering a career in music, especially in band. Students will work with music extraordinaire Quincy Hilliard in a band rehearsal setting, discover the "why" behind rehearsal procedures, learn about the skills necessary to be a successful musician and music educator. More information and the student application form [.pdf] is available online.
WMEA Awards and Recognition

Recognizing people who make a difference is one of the most rewarding activities for any organization. WMEA sponsors several ways to recognize people who have sustained a commitment to music education and made a positive impact in the school, community or state: 25+ Years of Teacher Service Recognition, Richard G. Gaarder Award, Distinguished Administrator Award, Michael G. George Award, Community Service Awards and Wisconsin Award for Excellence in Teaching Music (nomination packet available now - February 20 deadline).
Help Plan Conference 2009

Mark your calendar for the 2009 Wisconsin State Music Conference Planning Session -- January 10, 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m., Wisconsin Center for Music Education!

All WMEA members are invited to join with other music educators from around the state at this special planning session. This is your chance to get involved. Your help is needed:

  • Identifying topics and presenters.
  • Refining and prioritizing workshop sessions.
  • Suggesting special guests and events.
Upcoming Professional Development Workshops

Earn graduate credit at or close to home! The Wisconsin Center for Music Education is offering a variety of professional development workshops with graduate credit available, including two online courses and several video conferences. All of the winter and spring workshops have distance learning options, alleviating the need to travel far for professional development.
