Summer Workshop 2011

The 2011 CMP Workshop is set to take place on June 20-24, 2011 at UW-Eau Claire, WI

“I got exactly what I wanted – time to think, plan, share – take the next step in my teaching.”
–Workshop Participant

“Best workshop I have ever attended, by far!”
–Workshop Participant

The workshops are prepared by music teachers for – band, chorus, general music, orchestra, and studio teachers.  Prepared by music teachers for music teachers! The CMP Summer Workshop has something to offer to every music teacher, whether you are interested in attending for the first time or are a returning teacher looking to dig deeper into the process of CMP. Regardless of the area you teach: band, chorus, orchestra, general music or private studio students. The CMP Summer Workshop is the place for you to be this June!

Are you interested in learning about the CMP Process for the first time?
If this is your first experience with CMP, you will have the time and support during the workshop to explore the tools necessary to teach comprehensive musicianship to your students. The summer workshop offers first-time attendees the chance to get involved in special presentations, small-group discussions and demonstration rehearsals and classes.

Do  you need to develop your PDP, or need 2 or 3 credits for licensing or movement on the salary schedule?
Here's your opportunity to experience a workshop with 100% relevancy!

Are you interested in attending the CMP Workshop again?
For teachers who have some background in CMP or have attended a CMP Summer Workshop previously, returning to the summer workshop offers more challenging and in-depth experiences with other workshop veterans as you explore the CMP model for the second or third time.
Teachers who have completed a CMP Summer Workshop previously can take their newly learned skills a step further and spend the week creating an outcome that will arch over two or more pieces. Returning attendees will also participate in special-interest presentations and demonstration rehearsals and classes, while still meeting separately for more in-depth study sessions. Long range CMP planning will include lessons in:
  • Grouping pieces together as units of study
  • Intensifying your score analysis
  • Writing long-range outcomes
  • Connecting to other art forms and disciplines
  • Assessing student learning using a variety of tools
Spread the word and encourage your friends and colleagues to come explore this exciting and inspirational workshop opportunity!

A Tip from the Model: Front-load with CMP

It is no secret that the arts are in a precarious position in the educational landscape these days.  Music classrooms are changing and we must be prepared and creative when it comes to designing music education.  Today's music teachers must take the opportunities presented to them and create music education opportunities to prepare our students for the 21st century, and that includes music education as part of a balance curriculum.  The CMP model provides teachers with the creativity tools to do just that.

Select your music oh, so carefully! You may not have time these days for the whimsical “I think we’ll try this one and see if it flies!” If it isn’t a piece you know to be tried and true, then be sure you save time to:

Analyze your score. Discover on your time, not the students’, if it’s a one trick pony or has the depth to really deserve a spot in the folder. If you have determined it is a quality composition, then:

Determine long range outcomes (skill, knowledge and affective) that are appropriate for your brood. This will also reinforce that you made good repertoire choices.

Anticipate students’ needs by determining Strategies to deliver the outcomes. Don’t wait until you have the students in front of you to brainstorm ways to get a point across.

And finally, plan how you will Assess their progress. You will want to know quickly if your strategies are working to support your outcomes.

By planning carefully and preemptively, we can save ourselves time in the long run—as well as having a successful performance season.
